The Gazette collected 51 awards for its journalism over the weekend, including the Associated Press' sweepstakes award for general excellence, the top award for newspapers with the largest circulation in Colorado. The Gazette brought home 30 awards from the Associated Press and 21 from the Colorado Press Association, the two main statewide contests for newspapers, whose winners are named during the Colorado Press Association's annual conference, held this year in Colorado Springs. Photo editor Christian Murdock brought home nine awards - seven from AP and two from the CPA, including first-place awards for general news photo, portrait/personality photo, Sports photo, and photography portfolio.
