AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage moved one step closer to a long-sought victory Monday when a legislative committee overwhelmingly endorsed more than doubling the pay of the next governor from $70,000 a year to $150,000. The State and Local Government Committee voted 11-1 in favor of increasing the salary, which is now the lowest of any state in the nation.
