Maine skiing legend ‘Chummy’ Broomhall dies at 98

Maine — and the United States — have lost a skiing icon. Wendall “Chummy” Broomhall, an Olympian, one of the most decorated skiers in Maine history, one of the driving forces behind the development of Black Mountain of Maine ski area in Rumford, and one of the most revered of Androscoggin River Valley natives, died Saturday at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.
