In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Harvey, jury trials have been postponed throughout Southeast Texas, with many pushed back until next year. "It's just one of the repercussions of the hurricane that we don't think about," Jefferson County District Clerk Jamie Smith said. In Orange County, where the courthouse was damaged and more than half the county flooded, all jury trials have been postponed indefinitely, and in Jefferson County, civil trials have been paused to make sure there are enough jurors for criminal cases. "We're trying to take into consideration that everyone needs a little bit of time to get their lives back together, and to put the courthouse back together," Orange County District Clerk Vickie Edgerly said.
