Former Boone school board members indicted

By Ryan Quinn The Boone County Board of Education's former president and another former member have been indicted for allegedly accepting gifts from people they knew were "interested in a bid, contract, purchase, claim and transaction" with the Boone public school system, according to court documents. Former Boone school board president Mark Sumpter, who denied the allegations, resigned in October, and former board member Danny Cantley resigned in April. Each was indicted this week on three counts of "Gifts to Public Servants Prohibited." Each count can carry 3 months to a year in jail or a $50-$1,000 fine, or both. According to the indictments, at multiple times in 2014, Cantley allegedly received NASCAR tickets from King's Tire Service Inc., a company also known as King Tire Service or Kings Tire Service. In 2015 and 2016, Sumpter allegedly received one Fuzion Touring tire and two Kelly Charger tires "and accompanying services" from King's Tire Service, and one tire from Martin's Peterbilt of West Virginia.
