Patrol officers issued opiate antidote for use on street

STAMFORD-About 30 patrol officers received a crash course in administering the opiate antidote drug Narcan and were issued applicators of Narcan at their lineup Wednesday afternoon. Police and emergency medical services officials said the reason for the change in policy allowing police officers to administer the drug is because of a steep rise in overdoses in Stamford coupled with a fear that police officers may become contaminated by particularly strong strains of the opioid drugs they encounter.
