John Reese, 28, of Connecticut Avenue, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault at the Stamford courthouse on Monday and was immediately sentenced by Judge Richard Comerford. The alleged gunman in the incident, Freddy Hicks, 32, also of Stamford was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree assault and criminal possession of a firearm. Reese made the plea under the Alford Doctrine where he disagreed with the state’s facts of the case, but believes he would ultimately be convicted of the charge if he were to take the case to trial.
