Comment on Gehrke: Hughes is right. The state needs a strong, cooperative response to the homeless crisis

After a rough week in the Rio Grande Street area, House Speaker Greg Hughes had finally seen about enough. Prompted by a fatal hit-and-run, the beating of a minor league baseball player and a drug sweep aimed at driving a cartel out of Pioneer Park, the speaker said the homeless situation in downtown Salt Lake City is deteriorating and it may be time for the state to take the lead. Hughes is to be commended for speaking out on this now.
