By Kyle Schwab Staff Writer kschwab@oklahoman.comAfter being sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the 2009 death of a 16-year-old accomplice in an Oklahoma City drugstore robbery, Emanuel “E Man” Mitchell won a retrial because he wasn't allowed to represent himself. Last year, Mitchell represented himself at the retrial and Oklahoma County jurors convicted him again, only choosing an even harsher punishment, life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder. On Friday, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals denied Mitchell's request to overturn the conviction. In a bizarre twist, Mitchell, now 38, claimed he should be granted a third trial because "the trial court erred in allowing him to represent himself," Presiding Appellate Judge Clancy Smith wrote in her opinion affirming the district court's judgment.
