Catholic saint’s heart goes on display in Lowell, Mass., for 1st time outside Italy

LOWELL, Mass. — The heart of a celebrated Roman Catholic saint is being publicly displayed this week – the first time the religious relic has left Italy. Pope John Paul II acknowledges the faithful above the tapestry of Italy’s most famous Capuchin monk Padre Pio, hung on St. John in Lateran Basilica in Rome during his beatification ceremony.
