By Randy Ellis Staff Writer rellis@oklahoman.comNEWKIRK — A former administrative assistant at the Kay County jail has been charged with embezzling $363,565 in inmate trust funds to support her gambling at casinos. Melissa Ann Sprueill, 42, of Morrison, confessed to an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent that for five years she had been pocketing cash that was supposed to be deposited into an account used to hold money for jail inmates, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Sprueill told OSBI agent Marty Wilson that she started frequenting casinos around Newkirk, "became addicted to gambling, and started losing money regularly," the affidavit states. "Sprueill had no idea how much money she had taken from the commissary account because she had been doing it over a five-year period," Wilson said.Read more on NewsOK.com
