Dennis King withdraws from Chatham County Probate Court judge race

Dennis King yesterday withdrew his candidacy for Chatham County Probate Court judge in the face of a challenge to his qualifications by his opponent, attorney Tom Bordeaux Jr. Both men had qualified to run for the bench to be vacated by veteran Probate Harris Lewis’ decision not to seek re-election. King’s action means that Bordeaux, 62-year-old former Savannah alderman, will run unopposed in the May 24 nonpartisan general election. Bordeaux had challenged King’s standing as a practicing member of the State Bar of Georgia as required by law, which requires that a judicial candidate must be admitted to practice law for seven years before the election. He said that King is currently listed by the bar as being an “inactive member in good standing” and has been so since Dec.
