WHAT'S UP DOC? Skin condition may be symptom of autoimmune disease

Q: My niece was diagnosed with a skin condition called morphea profunda.  Please give me some information about this.A: Systemic scleroderma is thought to be an autoimmune disease — the body is attacked by its own immune system. It affects the joints, muscles, connective tissues and/or other organs. Morphea is thought to be a localized form of scleroderma, although some recent research now questions this.
