Chatham County officials trying to avoid voter confusion in March 29 runoff, special election

Local elections officials are trying to stave off as much voter confusion as possible before Chatham County residents head to the polls next week to decide which candidates will replace two public officials who have died in recent months. On Tuesday, voters decide whether Roy Harris or John Wilcher will serve as sheriff for the remainder of Al St Lawrence’s term. Harris, the incumbent sheriff and St Lawrence’s former chief deputy, and Wilcher, a retired sheriff’s office colonel, were the two highest performing candidates in a March 1 special election in which none of five contenders received more than 50 percent of the vote. Similarly, voters in Georgia House District 162 will decide between former Savannah City Council candidate Alicia Blakely, Feed the Hungry CEO Carl Gilliard and businessman Josey Sheppard in a special election to fill the remainder of state Rep.
