Workforce Commission chairman: Think hard before leaving your job

Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken, an appointee of GOP Gov. Rick Perry, has presided as recession-fueled jobless claims depleted the state's unemployment trust fund. Texas has borrowed money interest-free from the federal government to help keep the fund afloat, and it expects to issue bonds later this year. The Obama Administration — what they've tried hasn't been working. Since the Obama stimulus plan began, from February '09 through May of 2010, while there's been an addition of approximately 400,000 public-sector jobs, we've lost during that same period of time 2.7 million private-sector jobs. [...] his recent call to expense capital investments for a one-year period rather than sort of lengthy depreciation is the first positive step, in my judgment, that will spur economic growth in the private sector, which has got to get us out of this. To people out trying to look for work, I would just say be persistent and understand that, perhaps, you're not going to be able to get a position with the responsibility you previously had or even at the salary level you previously had in this environment, and it's better to try to get employed and then, hopefully, start moving up the ladder again, because there are a lot of talented people out there seeking fewer jobs than were available a few years ago.
