Rape crisis seminar educates, empowers women

Savannah residents learned tips on how to recognize and handle sexual violence Saturday morning at a three-hour seminar hosted by the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire. The event, titled “No More!” featured an hourlong class on sexual violence and a two-hour self-defense class. The seminar, which comes three weeks after police arrested a man for the rape of a Savannah teen near DeRenne Middle School, was designed to empower Savannah women and raise awareness about sexual violence, according to Kesha Gibson-Carter, local RCC executive director. “We want to get on the front lines,” Gibson-Carter said.
