Candidates in special election for sheriff qualify for next 4-year sheriff's term Wednesday

Less than a month before they’ll face off in the runoff to fill the unexpired term of former Chatham County Sheriff Al St Lawrence, the two candidates for the post also qualified to run for the next four-year term of sheriff on day three of qualifying in Chatham County. Incumbent Sheriff Roy Harris and John Wilcher, his competitor in the special election, qualified Wednesday to run as Republicans for the upcoming sheriff’s term, Assistant Elections Supervisor Lynn Trabue said. In addition, representatives of the Chatham County Democratic Party submitted qualifying materials for two candidates for the District 3 Chatham County Commission seat, Sabrina Greene-Kent and Bobby Lockett, Trabue said. Meanwhile, in the race to succeed retiring Chatham County Probate Judge Harris Lewis, former Savannah Alderman Tom Bordeaux and Robert Dennis King qualified Wednesday.
