Five local public high schools have received Advanced Placement honors from State School Superintendent Richard Woods. Savannah Arts Academy, Groves High and Johnson High schools were named AP Challenge Schools, which enroll up to 900 students and have test takers in English, math, science and social studies. Jenkins High School was named an AP Access and Support school because 30 percent or more of their AP exams were taken by African-American or Hispanic students and 30 percent of all test takers scored 3 or higher. Savannah Arts Academy was named an AP Merit School because at least 20 percent of its students took AP exams and at least half of all test takers scored of 3 or higher. Savannah Arts Academy and Jenkins High School were named AP STEM Schools for students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses.
