Nearly one-third of Effingham voters cast ballots in presidential primary

Thirty-one percent of registered voters in Effingham County cast ballots in Tuesday’s presidential preference primary, with heavy Republican turnout. Unofficial returns show that 9,278 votes were cast for Republicans, compared with 1,827 cast for Democrats, or 84 percent Republican to 16 percent Democrat. In the Republican primary, Donald Trump won 39 percent of the vote, with Ted Cruz coming in second, with 33 percent.
