NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Former Cleveland County Sheriff DeWayne Beggs, who spent more than two decades in law enforcement has died. He was 65. Beggs' wife, Sue, says he died early Friday at his Norman home after a lengthy illness. The exact cause of death was not immediately known. Beggs served nearly four terms as sheriff from 1992 until he retired in April 2008, citing health problems. He previously worked for 10 years as a Norman police officer and 10 years in the security division for the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City. His wife says before his law enforcement career, Beggs was a singer for the band DeWayne and the Beldettas. Services will be at 2 p.m.
