MORGANTOWN, W. V. — UCF saw its postseason hopes go up in smoke as West Virginia’s CJ Donaldson scored two rushing touchdowns, leading the Mountaineers to a 31-21 win over the Knights Saturday. The loss knocks UCF (4-7) out of bowl contention and guarantees back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since the 2015-16 seasons. It was at the outset of the 1982 NCAA championship game when Georgetown’s Ewing was called for five goaltending violations in the first five minutes.

As UCF exited the locker room for the start of Saturday’s game against West Virginia, players and coaches locked arms as they slowly marched out of the tunnel onto the field at Milan Puskar Stadium. It was meant to highlight the team’s theme of toughness and togetherness. This season, this theme has been tested repeatedly as the Knights suffered through perhaps their most disappointing season since 2020.
