Two years after buying the Garden of the Gods Club and Resort from a California development firm, local business executives Brenda Smith and Judy Mackey are spending more than $10 million into renovations and a major expansion of the northwest Colorado Springs icon. The renovation and expansion project could cost more than $30 million and is planned to be completed in three phases over the next two years, said Laura Neumann, who was hired by Smith and Mackey in February as general manager for the 3,800-member private club. Renovation of most of the club's guest rooms, dining areas, lounges, lobby, meeting rooms and recreational facilities began in early 2014 and was completed in January.
