Ceremony honoring victims of 9/11 held in Freeport

More than 100 people gathered in the Freeport Public Safety Building Friday to mark the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The crowd of flag-waving adults and children, drawn here by the steadfast presence of the Freeport Flag Ladies, listened as a series of speakers called attention to the sacrifices made on that day and in the nation’s wars since then. The crowd observed separate moments of silence marking when each of the World Trade Center towers fell in New York City. Men and women wept as the Maine Public Safety Pipe and Drum Corps played “Amazing Grace.” James Troutt drove to the ceremony from Sherman, about 100 miles north of Bangor.
