Mayor Richard Berry said Tuesday that he will veto the proposed “Fair Workweek Act” if it ever makes it to his desk. That’s not likely to happen anytime soon. One councilor, Ken Sanchez, a Democrat, has already requested an economic analysis of the legislation — a process that will delay consideration of the bill for about 90 days. And the co-sponsors of the bill, Isaac Benton and Klarissa Peña, both Democrats, have already said they are considering substantial amendments The proposed ordinance would require employers to set work schedules three weeks in advance, pay employees for unexpected changes and provide paid sick leave.
