A former Brooklyn, N.Y., man was sentenced today to 59 years in federal prison for twice using a firearm to carjack and kidnap two people, one a West Mecklenburg High teacher.Peter James Smith, 52, was convicted in February of two counts of carjacking and kidnapping and three counts of discharging a firearm.
