Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) is getting close to an agreement to purchase Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna Corp. (NYSE: CI), Bloomberg reports. The story cites anonymous sources close to the deal in saying Anthem would pay about $48 billion for the company. Anthem also operates Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The two companies had already discussed an acquisition agreement in late June, which Cigna said was undervalued.
