Popular Colorado river reopens to recreational use

After a month-long recreational ban, the South Platte River reopened in Douglas and Jefferson counties. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that a stretch of the South Platte and its north fork, from the Jefferson and Park county line to Chatfield Reservoir, was open to recreational use. Heavy rain and an "abundance of caution" caused Jefferson and Douglas counties to close the stretch June 17, prohibiting tubing, rafting, kayaking, fishing, swimming and other recreation until further notice.
