Health department to VA clinic - Don't use water

WILMINGTON -- The New Hanover County Health Department has issued the Wilmington VA Health Care Center a "Do Not Use Water" notice, after an attorney questioning the authority another agency had to issue the same notice in March. The notice, issued on Saturday, says "Samples of water collected from this facility show the presence of copper and lead at levels that present a potential health risk of consumed, used for any processes involving the preparation of food and/or beverages including the making of ice OR health care and dental procedures including the cleaning of instruments and equipment." It repeats the same concerns and restrictions as the "Do Not Use The Water" notice Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued in March after determining the source of a water-quality complaint was an internal plumbing problem. The health department's notice "will remain in effect until the source is identified, mitigated and verification can be demonstrated through repeated sampling," according to the notice.
