Sun seen giving way to heavy rains, lightning, 40-mph winds in Volusia, Flagler counties

DAYTONA BEACH - Heavy rains, lightning and thunder are expected later Saturday in Volusia and Flagler counties, where temperatures could reach into the 90s, according to the National Weather Service.The morning sun is seen giving way to clouds as numerous showers and lightning storms develop across the area. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph as the storms approach the Intracoastal Waterway, the Weather Service warned, adding that the risk of strong storms should end by sunset. The storms could produce 2 to 3 inches of rain per hour, which could cause flooding in low-lying areas in both counties, according to the Weather Service.The marine forecast warns of frequent lightning strikes with wind gusts reaching 35 knots.Temperatures are seen falling into the 70s tonight.
