Giants' 9th-inning rally falls short in 8-6 loss to Rockies

Three players in the middle of Colorado's batting order — Carlos Gonzalez, Nolan Arenado and Ben Paulsen — produced 10 hits, four extra-base hits and all seven RBIs and the Rockies rode them to an 8-6 victory over the Giants on Friday night. Tim Hudson (5-7) took a shutout into the sixth inning, but Arenado's 21st home run ended it. The three-run homer is one pitch I'd like to have back. Three walks, a passed ball and RBI singles by Gregor Blanco and Joe Panik cut the deficit to two runs before Kahnle struck out Duffy and Posey, both on full counts. "All you can ask is to bring the winning run to the plate," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt went on the disabled list with a left shoulder sprain.
