Herring Bank starts downtown work

A lot of history will merge when Herring Bank transforms a 1941 chapel into its downtown Amarillo branch. Herring Bank, founded in Vernon in 1899, will spend more than $2 million renovating the building at Southeast Fifth Avenue and South Pierce Street that originally housed Blackburn Funeral Chapel, Herring President Rob Parker said. “Just envision it,” Parker said. He pointed to the chapel and sites to the southeast that are slated to hold a future downtown convention center hotel, Xcel Energy’s Amarillo headquarters and other redevelopment projects. read more
