Maine authorities seek former Kennebunk man on investment scam charges

Maine authorities are seeking help from the public to locate a former Kennebunk man who is accused of scamming people in York and Waldo counties into giving him investment money supposedly to start a clothing business but that he actually spent on himself. Robert J. Howarth, 61, was indicted by a York County grand jury in March and by a Waldo County grand jury in May on charges in both places on charges of securities fraud and theft by deception. But since his indictments, authorities have been unable to locate Howarth, who also uses aliases of Robert Chiofolo, Robert Kim Lee, and Robert Sachs, according to Assistant Attorney General Carrie Carney, who is prosecuting the case against him. “He was living in Kennebunk, but he’s not there anymore.
