The Wells harbor master responded early Saturday afternoon to a reported great white shark sighting about a mile off Moody Beach but was unable to confirm the sighting. The report came from passengers aboard a charter fishing vessel. Wells police Sgt. Kevin Chabot said in a statement that shark sightings are not uncommon, but he said this sighting would be considered unusual because of the time of year and because of the close proximity to the beach. He said police did not order Moody Beach closed but would closely monitor the water.
