Pence, Duffy homer as Giants beat Brewers again In the third inning of Tuesday night's 6-3 victory against the free-falling Brewers, Bumgarner got a bad read on Joe Panik's drive over center fielder Carlos Gomez's head. Bumgarner finally bolted when the ball one-hopped the fence, rounded third and scored feet first as catcher dropped a shin guard on the pitcher's left leg. Bumgarner had a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning and 5-1 in the sixth, against the team with the league's worst record, when he hit a wall. When manager Bruce Bochy saw Pagan strike out twice in the same inning Monday, he decided to give the center fielder a mental break. Pence's return to the lineup makes it easier for Bochy to rest another regular without significantly weakening the offense. On Tuesday, Pence even slipped into Pagan's spot in the order, third, and gave the Giants a 1-0 lead when he a lined a Matt Garza curveball over the center-field wall in the first inning, his second home run. Garza did not allow another baserunner until he walked Bumgarner with one out in the third inning, launching the sequence that led to his baserunning adventure. Garza regrouped and struck out Pence before second baseman Hector Gomez dived to stop a hard Buster Posey grounder to save two runs. Crawford and Gregor Blanco hit back-to-back doubles for one run before Duffy drove one to center that carried over the wall for his third home run.
