LAS VEGAS — The Colorado Avalanche needs to strengthen the depth chart, either in the short- or long-term, while it could be a record-breaking night for the University of Denver in the first round of the NHL draft.
Colorado has the No. 24 pick in the draft, which begins Friday night at The Sphere just off the Las Vegas strip.
A pivotal match for the Colorado Rapids is at hand this Saturday against LAFC. While it was unlikely, it could have been the last match of forward Rafael Navarro’s time with the Rapids, as his loan from Brazilian side Palmeiras would have come to an end the day after.
Instead, it will be the first of his long-term tenure with the Rapids.
The flood gates of free agency open Sunday night around the NBA.
For the Nuggets specifically, the flood — or to put it more accurately, the stream — of offseason additions will hinge on one major outcome in particular, one that will begin to materialize at 4 p.m. MT. That’s when all NBA teams are allowed to negotiate with free agents, including Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Denver’s valuable fifth starter the last two seasons.
Caldwell-Pope declined his $15.4 million player option this week, making him an unrestricted free agent.
