The state is in the fourth year of the worst drought in its history, with farmers in the Central Valley pumping so much groundwater from aquifers that the state is literally sinking -- and shrinking! But unlike temblors, tsunamis and catastrophic forest fires, droughts are slow-rolling disasters, and thus, according to conventional blockbuster wisdom, inherently uncinematic.
