49ers add WR Anderson, QB Thomspon after draft

The team announced the signing of nine rookie free agents Tuesday and five of the undrafted prospects are wide receivers. Anderson (6-1, 187), who hadd surgery to repair his MCL, is about 90 to 95 percent recovered from an injury that typically requires an eight-month rehabilitation, according his agent, Kenny Zuckerman. Anderson, the son of former NFL wideout Flipper Anderson, a 10-year veteran, was first able to work out for NFL scouts on April 14 at Utah. In front of 14 scouts and Ravens wide receivers coach Bobby Engram, Anderson was told by scouts he ran the 40-yard dash between 4.35 and 4.43 seconds. Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith and Jerome Simpson are the only wide receivers on the roster with more than six career receptions. Thompson (6-3, 218), who will join Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert, completed 270 of 451 passes for an SEC-best 3,564 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last year in his lone season as a starter. The 49ers have drafted five South Carolina players since 2011 and general manager Trent Baalke said Saturday his relationship with Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier helps explain why.
