Lawyers question training of volunteer deputy to killed man

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Lawyers say the Tulsa County sheriff's office violated internal policies related to the training of a volunteer deputy who fatally shot a man during a sting operation. Attorneys for the family of Eric Harris, who was killed April 2, said Monday that the sheriff's training unit violated department policies by not making a permanent record of certifications for the volunteer, 73-year-old volunteer Robert Bates. Bates is charged with second-degree manslaughter.
