Oklahoma City could hire outside attorney in Councilman Ed Shadid lawsuit

By William Crum, Staff WriterOklahoma City could hire legal help at $325 per hour to defend the plan to demolish downtown’s historic Union Bus Station. The city attorney has recommended an attorney from McAfee & Taft be retained to represent the Board of Adjustment in a lawsuit filed by Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid challenging the plan. The Board of Adjustment last month upheld a decision by the Downtown Design Review Committee to allow demolition of the bus station. Shadid had filed an appeal with the five-member board, saying that allowing demolition of the bus station contradicted guidelines intended to promote downtown redevelopment “in a manner consistent and compatible” with existing designs. A developer plans to demolish nine or 10 buildings in, and adjacent to, the 400 block of W Sheridan Avenue to make way for an office complex.Read more on NewsOK.com
