Berkeley tobacco retailers cry foul over proposed buffer zone around schools and parks

On May 12, the City Council will consider a draft ordinance that would prohibit the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products within 1,000 feet of schools and parks, with a one- to two-year grace period to minimize economic hardship; retailers say they don't sell tobacco to minors and that the ordinance will put them out of business.
