Common sense about Common Core has so far prevailed in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Gov. Phil Bryant and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves both want to scrap the Common Core educational standards completely and start over with development of new standards to guide Mississippi schools. House Speaker Philip Gunn, Education Committee chairman John Moore and the House apparently aren’t headed down that road. That’s good news for Mississippi teachers, students and schools. Nothing would be served by setting aside a framework that is only now being fully implemented in the state and that millions of dollars and thousands of hours of training have been invested to support.
