Info sought in 2000 slaying of Savannah teen shot trying to protect mother

Police are seeking information in the 2000 slaying of a Savannah teenager who was shot to death while trying to protect his mother from an armed robber. Jonah Bryant, 15, was killed Jan. 14, 2000, during an altercation with a man trying to rob Bryant’s mother at their home on East 37th Street, according to old stories in the Savannah Morning News. Police describe the gunman as a black male who stood 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall who was wearing a black and white checkered jacket, said Catherine Neal, CrimeStoppers spokeswoman. A potential cash reward of as much as $13,500 is available for new information that leads to the arrest of Bryant’s killer, Neal said. All information provided to CrimeStoppers is anonymous and may be reported 24/7.
