Grave situation avoided; Madison City Council raises cemetery prices to stop losing money

City Attorney Kelly Butler said the public works department has been losing money on the cemetery operations, particularly on the grave openings and closings, which often requires paying workers overtime on weekends and holidays. The plot prices were raised only to a level for the city to break even for providing cemetery services, she said.
