A Newton elementary student was punched in the stomach by an adult Thursday morning who then ran from the campus, according to Superintendent Michelle Barrow. The incident happened in a hall between classes. The man persuaded the student to open a locked exterior door. When the student opened the door, the man threw the punch and ran away, the superintendent's statement said. The student is not harmed and police are investigating the situation. Students and staff are safe, Barrow said, and classes will continue as planned. No visitors will be allowed on campus today for security reasons.
