The Microsoft-owned social media site is a place for networking between businesses, employees, and employers but it’s now believed to have seen an explosive growth of the new technology. The research was completed by Originality.ai, an AI content detector, with 8,795 LinkedIn long-form posts being analyzed to determine who they were written by – technology or a human. The study spanned content published over 82 months from January 2018 to October 2024, with posts involved being at least 100 words.

The coalition claims Microsoft employs “dark patterns” to discourage users from choosing alternative browsers and instead push them toward its own browser, Edge. They argue that the company obstructs the downloading of competing browsers, reverts the default browser to Edge during system updates, and forces links from its services to open in Edge, which overrides user preferences. The Browser Choice Alliance has launched. It's a coalition of browsers (Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi, and others) against Microsoft and their Edge browser dark patterns to avoid full browser competition on Windows PCs.
