Intel aims to disrupt proprietary networks with software-defined open networks

Computer networking is the heart of the cloud data centers that power the internet. But those networks are complicated and they aren’t as open as they could be. Intel is attacking this problem — and its rival Cisco — with two new technologies in the coming year: software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV).
