18,000 youth sign up for free Muni pass Increasing funds: A bill to boost city funding for domestic violence prosecution, civil cases, outreach and tracking moved forward with a unanimous recommendation from a Board of Supervisors committee meeting Wednesday, but short of the $750,000 initially requested. The legislation sponsored by board President David Chiu would provide $631,893 for domestic violence, earmarking $445,000 to the district attorney's office for two trial attorneys, two investigators, three victim advocates and one paralegal. The rest of the money would go to the Department on the Status of Women to restore a policy analyst position and strengthen civil legal services that help domestic violence victims. The report said domestic violence cases referred to the district attorney's office from the San Francisco Police Department decreased by 40 percent over the past five years and there was a reduction of 18.5 percent in domestic violence cases charged by the district attorney from 2010 to 2012. [...] District Attorney George Gascón said that the amount of domestic violence cases his office handles has increased by 88 percent between 2010 and 2012 and pressed hard for supervisors to stick with the original staffing proposals in his testimony.
