Prosecutors had sought to convince jurors that the sergeant’s treatment of Pvt. Danny Chen, which the prosecutors said included brutal hazing and racial taunts, had led to the private’s death.

That's like saying the bullets killed all those victims in the Colorado theater shooting, not James Holmes.
