An Ohio power company has proposed that data center operators like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta pay a significant chunk of the expected load, due to their huge energy consumption. Tech companies had originally agreed to pay 60 percent of the projected amount. However, American Electric Power Ohio is now calling for the firms to put up 90 percent of the costs as part of a 10-year new fee structure, even if they don’t end up using that much.

Researchers from the St Louis Federal Reserve have found that online dating may be partially to blame for an increase in household income inequality. Using data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey from 2008 to 2021, during which online dating gained widespread popularity, the economists observed that women increasingly preferred partners based on age, whereas men showed more of a preference for partners based on educational background. In their 2019 paper, Michael Rosenfeld, Reuben Thomas, and Sonia Hausen also showed a significant shift in how married couples first meet, charting an increase from only 2 percent in 1998 to 20 percent in 2008, and then soaring to nearly 50 percent by 2017.

TikTok will begin making its case in a U. S. court on Monday (September 16) over a law to force the app’s sale. Attorneys for ByteDance, the Chinese company behind TikTok, will argue that the legislation is unconstitutional after U. S. President Joe Biden signed the measure into law in April.
