Maria Sharapova says there was concern from some players about traveling to Japan to take part in this week’s Pan Pacific Open because of fears of radiation leaks from a tsunami-damaged nuclear power plant. The facility was abandoned last March after 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami struck the country, leaving more than 20,000 dead or missing."There was definitely a lot of talk before the tournament, a lot of players having concerns whether it's safe to come here," said Sharapova.
